Sister-Port Agreement with Yantai Port Group Co., Ltd
On Monday, April 24 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Norm Dicks Government Center, Bremerton, Commissioners of the Port of Bremerton, along with the Chinese delegation from the Yantai Port Group Co., Ltd will sign a Sister Port Agreement at a short ceremony. This ceremony is the English version of the signing held in Yantai on October 15, 2002, when the Port Commissioners, along with other state dignitaries including County Commissioner Jan Angel and Lieutenant Governor Brad Owens, visited Yantai, Peoples Republic of China to sign the Chinese version of the document. The Port of Bremerton and the Yantai Port Group Sister Port Agreement is based on the friendship that exists between the two Ports and the principle of mutual benefit to include extensive exchanges and cooperation on port business such as construction, management, science, technology and personal training, etc. It is expected that over time the two Ports will remain in frequent contact and meet on appropriate occasions to discuss issues of common interest. The Sister Port agreement is established in accordance with the principles of the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America, for the purpose of promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and American people, as well as consolidating and developing friendly cooperation between the two Ports. The agreement establishes this sister-port relationship through friendly consultation. The Sister Port Agreement will stay in effect indefinitely until terminated by either Port. “The Port of Bremerton and the Kitsap community will benefit in ways that are certain to improve the understanding of international business development” according to Port President Mary Ann Huntington. |
