At their regular Board meeting October 11, 2005, the Port of Bremerton Commissioners passed Resolution 2005-37 opposing Initiative 912. The resolution states in part, that transportation infrastructure is essential to the economic viability of the County, Region, and State, and the Port has always supported such measures that provide improvements necessary for the safety and welfare of citizens. Passage of I-912 would eliminate approximately 80 percent of revenue to be distributed to the state’s cities and counties which would have a negative affect on planned local transportation improvements in Kitsap and Mason Counties. The increased revenue from the vehicle fuel excise tax is a “user” tax and therefore considered one of the fairest taxes to be imposed.

A copy of the resolution is being sent to the Legislators of the 23rd, 26th and 35th districts.
